Overview
The client is a large public utility with many employees handling HAZMAT. Equipment and process failures can lead to severe environmental consequences. Therefore, all employees are required to take an extensive battery of compliance training modules annually to keep up on safe working conditions and regulatory best practices.
Project Goal
Corvum Learning & Design was asked to update dozens of older, out of date, inaccessible, and vague in-person presentation materials on environmental regulatory compliance to consistent, modern online self-paced courses for the client LMS.
Approach
The old materials were inconsistent and unattractive. A new template was generated for all presentations to fit into. The new template is compliant with Web 2.0 Accessibility and in alignment with the client’s branding standards.
The template also has a minimum slate of slides that much be used to cover each topic consistently. This requires SMEs to create content in a standardized and comprehensive format.
Course Challenges and Solutions
A significant percentage of the old content was incomplete and dependent on an in-person presenter to fill in critical details from bullet point slides. The new presentations needed to be written into full conversational sentences, learner assessments were written from scratch, and corresponding imagery was sourced from client images and online resources. When possible, content was generated with AI using the original bulleted information, saving SMEs time in writing. AI Content was edited for accuracy.
Impact on the Organization
As regulations change from year to year, the presentations are required to be updated to keep pace. Standardizing the format has allowed for rapid modifications to fulfill this need. Corvum Learning & Design has created and updated over 40 courses in this series.
